How LaFamilia Fed Kibagare During COVID-19

La Familia InitiativeJune 15, 2024

When COVID-19 struck in 2020, the entire world came to a standstill. For the residents of Kibagare slum, the situation was dire. With no savings and no way to work, hunger became an immediate threat.

LaFamilia Hope Initiative, in partnership with Unga wa Dola company, organized a massive food distribution drive that reached every household in the community. Volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure that no family was left behind.

The distribution included maize flour, rice, cooking oil, and other essential supplies. For many families, this was their only source of food during the lockdown period.

"We could not sit and watch our community starve," said Stephen John Nyangoso, the founder of LaFamilia. "God provided, and we were the vessels to deliver that provision."

This effort demonstrated the true spirit of community and the impact that organized grassroots movements can have in times of crisis. It also strengthened the bond between LaFamilia and the Kibagare community, cementing the organization's role as a beacon of hope.
